The Asian Football Confederation fined Iran’s under-17 futsal team $8,600 for on-field misconduct and yellow card accumulation during their controversial final against Afghanistan.
Afghanistan’s under-17 futsal team has claimed a historic victory over Iran in the final of the Asian Youth Games in Bahrain, but the match ended in controversy after a late-game brawl.
The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) fined Iran’s national youth futsal team $8,600 for their role in the clash, including $5,000 for the on-field altercation and $3,600 for accumulating seven yellow cards.
During the final moments of the match, when Afghanistan was leading 2-1, Iranian players became involved in a confrontation with their Afghanistan counterparts. The situation escalated when members of the Iranian coaching staff entered the fray, forcing police intervention to restore order.
As a result of the incident, the AFC suspended players Mohammad Ali Shekarchi and Amirhossein Abdolrazaghi for four official national games. Team manager Behzad Azad and coach Mahmoud Ghazi received six-game bans.
Despite the chaos, the final whistle confirmed Afghanistan’s triumph, crowning the under-17 team as Asian champions and marking a significant achievement for Afghanistan futsal team.
