Elon Musk Doubles Down on Uncomfortable Sydney Sweeney Meme Amid Backlash
In this week's edition of the celebrity crossover no one asked for, Tesla CEO and SpaceX founder Elon Musk decided to stir up some drama involving Sydney Sweeney. The 28-year-old actress made waves at the recent premiere of The Housemaid, the upcoming movie release in which she stars alongside Amanda Seyfried. Sweeney sent social media into a frenzy while walking the red carpet, with fans reacting in droves. Among those reactions was a comment on a video of Sweeney posted by Variety on X, made by none other than the social media company's owner, Elon Musk.
While Musk quickly drew backlash for his initial comment and the meme posted alongside it, it apparently didn't bother him much because he doubled down with another comment about Sweeney.
The First (and Second) Viral Memes From Elon Musk About Sydney Sweeney
Although Musk's initial post about Sweeney drew immediate backlash on social media, his attempted follow-up was also poorly received. The 54-year-old entrepreneur and businessman replied to Variety's video of Sweeney at The Housemaid premiere with three words at first, followed by a meme suggesting the actress's figure leaves her spine in pain.
The meme showed a photo of a woman labeled "what it looks like," above an image of a person with back pain labeled "how it feels."
"Can't be easy," Musk wrote.

The responses to Musk's post were plentiful, but apparently, the world's current wealthiest man was unfazed by the backlash. Just over one hour after his initial post about the Sweeney video, Musk replied to a thread on X about the video game Diablo IV, using a different image of the actress while referencing the same topic.
"Seems like this will be a contest for most double-stacked equipment," Musk wrote above a photoshopped image of Sweeney.
The image included the word "the eclipse" posted across Sweeney's chest.

While many followers of Musk on X laughed at the billionaire's joke and follow-up meme, the two posts also drew a mixture of pushback and some followers calling him out. Many believed that Musk was trying to get Sweeney's attention by replying to the video and posting memes.
The Internet Reacts to Elon Musk's Posts About Sydney Sweeney
The reactions to Musk's two posts about Sweeney in just over an hour were largely critical. However, some also decided to jump in on Musk's attempted joke. Regardless, here are a few of the many reactions that came in across the two posts directed at The Housemaid star.
- "She’s 30 years younger than you. Weird," read one reply.
- A meme posted by an X user of a dog telling another dog to "go to horny jail."
- One user replied to Musk, "Don't you have a rocket to build or something?"
- Musk was criticized in one reply when he was told to "grow yourself to feel."
- A response from that told Musk to "focus on going to Mars and leave women alone."
Along with people also adding in the topic of Musk basically "shooting his shot" at Sweeney, some users didn't believe Musk actually made the post. A few responses said they thought his account had been hacked, while others openly asked whether Musk had actually posted the responses himself.
