Man hit by driver six years ago in San Jose dies from injuries
SAN JOSE – A man died Saturday of injuries he suffered more than six years ago when he was hit by a driver in San Jose, police said.
The collision was reported in the area of Lucretia Avenue and Summerside Drive just before 8:40 p.m. on Sept. 18, 2019, according to San Jose police Officer Tanya Hernandez.
An investigation determined a man was driving a 2012 Dodge SUV southbound on Lucretia Avenue when he hit two pedestrians, a man and a woman, crossing the roadway, Hernandez said. The pedestrians were not in a marked crosswalk at the time.
The man was taken to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries, but he was later stabilized.
On Tuesday, the Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office notified detectives the man died from his injuries Saturday. Hernandez said the coroner’s office “declared the manner of death due to the accident.”
The coroner’s office will release the man’s identity after it is confirmed and his next of kin is notified.
The death is being counted as the city’s 62nd traffic fatality of 2019, according to Hernandez.
