Thomas Frank loses another Tottenham midfielder with potential seven-game absence
Tottenham Hotspur will be without one of their key midfielders when they face Liverpool in the Premier League this weekend.
Tottenham Hotspur already have a host of players recovering from injuries, so avoiding any further losses will be one of the club’s biggest priorities.
In defence, Destiny Udogie is still on the sidelines, while Radu Dragusin and Kota Takai appear to still be on the mend.
Spurs continue to have players unavailable at the other end of the pitch, too. Dominic Solanke has remained out much longer than expected, and then there are the likes of Dejan Kulusevski and James Maddison, who are still some way off making their returns.
Tottenham officially release Pape Matar Sarr for AFCON
To add to the many injuries tearing apart the Tottenham first-team squad, another player is no longer available to Thomas Frank. However, this is not because of fitness issues, but due to the fact that AFCON is soon to get underway.
Pape Matar Sarr will be representing Senegal at the tournament, and he has left North London ahead of their opening fixture, which takes place in less than a week.
Should Senegal reach the final of AFCON, Sarr could miss seven matches for Tottenham, remaining out until after their January clash with Borussia Dortmund.
Sarr has struggled for starts at Spurs since the international break
While Tottenham will feel the loss of Sarr, the 23-year-old has not actually played much since the November international break.
Sarr has made just two starts in seven appearances, and he did not even come off the bench during the 3-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest last weekend.
Spurs will wish the midfielder every success, but deep down, there will be feelings of wanting him back at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Sarr may have been out of the team recently, but as many players as possible will be needed as the fixtures continue to build.
