Nearly every single Republican who wanted Trump impeached are gone, or going
Former U.S. Rep. Liz Cheney, R-Wyo., who turned on her party’s own president, orchestrated “evidence” to make him look bad over the Jan. 6, 2021, as part of Nancy Pelosi’s anti-Trump special committee on those events at the protest-turned-riot at the Capitol, and ultimately voted to impeach him, is gone from Congress.
She was unceremoniously, and overwhelmingly, thrown out of office by her own voters after her campaign of division among Republicans.
Also gone are from Congress are Rep. Anthony Gonzalez, Ohio, Jaime Herrera-Beutler, Washington, John Katko, New York, Adam Kinzinger, Illinois, Peter Meijer, Michigan, Tom Rice, South Carolina, and Fred Upton, Michigan.
What they have in common is that they all voted to impeach in one of Pelosi’s two failed impeach-and-remove schemes against Trump.
That’s eight of the 10 who adopted that strategy.
Now No. 9 is going.
A report at Fox News confirms Rep. Dan Newhouse, R-Wash., has announced his looming departure, as he will not seek re-election in the midterms.
In a statement, he said his decision is with “no reservations or remorse.”
He cited his 25 years in “public service,” including more than a decade in the House.
His coming departure means only Rep. David Valadao, R-Calif., who also voted for impeachment, would remain in office.
And that’s only if he wins re-election.
He was able to pull out a win in 2024 despite Trump’s campaigning against him.
What talking points he’ll use to seek a return to Washington aren’t clear, as his campaign has been virtually ignored in the news in recent months.
His campaign then was described as “hard-fought” and his reference in news reports of late came when he suggested California Gov. Gavin Newsom not push voters to endorse a redistricting plan in the state to try to eliminate the last of the Republican representatives in Congress for the one-third of the state that identifies as GOP.
His district is, in fact, one of those targeted by Democrats there to flip from GOP to leftist. He is predicted to have a harder time getting re-elected because of those redistricting efforts, which now are under court challenge.
