Mets Signing Luke Weaver
The Mets are finalizing a deal with reliever Luke Weaver, per Joel Sherman of the New York Post. The deal will be for two years, $22 million. The contract is pending physical.
Weaver, 32, is coming off a second straight strong season for the New York Yankees. In 2025, the right-handed reliever had a 3.62 ERA, eight saves, 1.02 WHIP and 72 strikeouts in 64 2/3 innings. His 2.90 expected ERA was in the 90th percentile, and the opponents’ expected batting average of .195 was in the 95th percentile. Weaver did miss time in 2025 with a left hamstring strain.
Weaver was struggling as a starter in 2023 when the Reds released him. He struggled for the Mariners in five outings before the Yankees scooped him up on waivers. He posted a 3.38 ERA in three starts for the Yankees to finish the 2023 season.
The Yankees moved Weaver to the bullpen for 2024, and that paid off big time. Weaver posted a 2.89 ERA and struck out 102 batters over 84 innings for the Yankees. He gave up only 52 hits and walked just 28 during his breakout season.
Earlier in the offseason, the Mets signed former Yankees reliever Devin Williams to a three-year deal. The Mets did lose closer Edwin Díaz to the Dodgers during the Winter Meetings.
