Apple Martin Gave Us Deja Vu While Wearing Mom Gwyneth Paltrow’s 1996 Dress on the Red Carpet
Nearly 30 years after Gwyneth Paltrow wore an iconic black halter dress at the 1996 premiere of Emma, her daughter Apple Martin donned the same gown for another red-carpet event: her mom’s film, Marty Supreme. The 21-year-old looked the spitting image of her mom, from the dress to her ‘90s-style updo, and we are feeling majorly nostalgic looking at the photos!
Apple, who Paltrow shares with ex-husband Chris Martin, looked gorgeous in the sleek Calvin Klein gown, per PEOPLE. She styled the form-fitting, long gown with her blonde hair in an updo, with a strand of blonde bangs tucked into her ears, and diamond earrings. She smiled on the red carpet with her mom, also in a black gown, but it’s the pictures of Paltrow from 1996 that really have us seeing double. Even their hairstyles are the same — it’s uncanny!
In September, Apple and Paltrow posed together in matching denim ensembles for Vogue, and the mother-daughter duo chatted about sharing clothes.
“She pulls all kinds of stuff. She’s very into all my ’90s Calvin, of which there’s a lot—and the ’90s Prada, of which there’s a lot,” Paltrow told the outlet. “Sometimes we just play dress up and she’ll put on my Oscar dresses and stuff like that. We have fun down there.”
That sounds amazing! Every girl loves exploring their mom’s closets for vintage pieces, but I can’t even imagine how much better it would be if your mom had as iconic of a wardrobe as Paltrow does. And the Goop founder has been saving for a while.
“Weirdly, I started saving clothes for Apple about 15, 20 years before she was born,” Paltrow added. “I don’t just see a top, I’ll see a moment in my life and all the circumstances surrounding it. I’ve always saved everything in hopes that I had a daughter one day who would want to go in there.”
And Apple loves it. She told the outlet about her mom, “She’s such a badass when it comes to fashion and has just done what she wants and doesn’t really care. I feel like I’m finally getting to the place where I don’t really care what people think. She influenced me.”
