'Resident Evil Requiem' Producer Confirms New Details, Including the Series' Future
Since the game's announcement at Summer Game Fest 2025, details about Resident Evil Requiem have been hard to come by. Slowly, we're getting new information about the game, right on the heels of its latest trailer, which confirmed fan-favorite Leon Kennedy as a playable character. Now, RE Requiem producer Masato Kumazawa has confirmed some additional details about the game, recommended camera perspective choices, and whether the series will continue past Requiem.
In a new interview with Gamemeca (and roughly translated from Japanese into English by Abdullah on X), Kumazawa discussed various aspects of the game and the future of RE. From the rough translation, Kumazawa has stated the various meanings of the "Requiem" title.
"Requiem" refers to three different aspects of the story, according to Kumazawa. "For Grace: a farewell and reconciliation with her mother’s past. For Raccoon City: a requiem for the city and its people." There is a meaning for Leon, too; however, that is being kept under wraps for now.
Kumazawa also reassured fans that Requiem is not the end of Resident Evil, saying, "Requiem is not the end of the series," and also confirmed plans to continue the beloved survival horror series with "plans to satisfy fans."
With dual protagonists and dual camera perspectives, players can choose to play the game in either first- or third-person or switch between the two. Kumazawa recommends players play Grace's sections in first-person and play Leon's sections in third-person.
Grace's relationship with her mother, Resident Evil Outbreak's Alyssa Ashcroft, is a key story element.
Leon's story is a personal one for him, according to Kumazawa, and he has a major secret. Kumazawa recommends fans play his sections in third-person. Kumazawa also confirmed there will be multiple weapons for Leon and the action serves the horror narrative and isn't designed as two completely separate experiences.
Finally, Kumazawa confirmed that Grace and Leon will meet, split up, and cross paths with each other throughout the game. There will also not be a constant companion character, like Ashley in Resident Evil 4.
Resident Evil Requiem will release on February 27, 2026, for PlayStation 5, PC, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch 2.
