What to do if your PC won’t shutdown properly
If your computer won’t shutdown properly, it can be very annoying. There could be a range of possible causes for that. But one cause could be if it’s hanging up in hibernation mode. To shutdown properly then you’ll need to turn hibernation mode off. Here’s how to do that.
What to do:
- In the Search bar type CMD and right click on the top entry and run it as an Administrator.
- Then type powercfg.exe /hibernate off and hit Enter.
This will turn off hibernation mode and allow your PC to shut down properly. Now attempt to shut down again and you may find your problem has been resolved. If the issue isn’t resolved with that step, it may be that Fast Start-up is causing issues with the shutdown process. You should disable Fast Start-up to see if that resolves the issue. Here’s how to do that:
- Type Control Panel into the Search bar and select the option to open it.
- Select Power Options from the list in Control Panel.
- Click on Choose what the power buttons do.
- Now click on Change settings that are currently unavailable.
- Uncheck the Turn on fast startup option.
