Two ‘Certified Fresh’ Films To Debut on Hulu This Week

Streaming services are always looking for content to add, giving more value to their subscribers. This week, Hulu viewers will be able to see two recent, critically acclaimed films that are set to be added to the service.

Both films have a "Certified Fresh" rating on the review aggregate site Rotten Tomatoes, meaning that the majority of reviews are positive.

The two films were both released within the last three years, giving subscribers the chance to check out a film that could have slipped past their radar during its initial theatrical run.

Academy Award Nominee Recognized

The first film to head to Hulu is 2022's "The Unknown Country," starring Academy Award nominee and Golden Globe winner Lily Gladstone. Viewers will be able to see Gladstone in another dramatic role after her star-making performance in "Killers of the Flower Moon."

In this film, Gladstone plays a woman who receives an invitation to a family member's wedding. The movie follows her road trip throughout the American midwest as she prepares to reconcile with her estranged family.

The film is available to stream on Hulu as of Monday, December 15.

Gladstone, who helped write the film, won the Gotham Independent Film Award for Outstanding Lead Performance. Critics agreed that her performance was "outstanding," and the film's Rotten Tomatoes critic consensus says it reaches an "ultimately profound destination."

'Chevalier' Returns to Hulu This Week

The second acclaimed film heading to Hulu this week is 2022's "Chevalier," featuring Kelvin Harrison Jr. in the titular role. Harrison plays Joseph Bologne, Chevalier de Saint-Georges, renowned musician and athlete.

The film focuses on the adversity Saint-Georges faced during his life and career, as well as the excellence he personally displayed throughout it. Saint-Georges navigated 18th-century France as the child of a slave owner and an enslaved woman, complicating his ability to ascend through the country's culture.

Other top names to appear in the movie include Samara Weaving, Lucy Boynton and Minnie Driver.

Critics felt that Harrison's work in the lead role was "outstanding," and that the film "offers an entertaining gateway into the incredible life of a brilliant artist." In addition to his own personal triumphs, the film delves into the French Revolution and also into France under Napoleonic rule.

For fans of classical music, the film includes several well-known and prominent compositions, including many from Saint-Georges himself. Fans can tune in to see the film starting on Tuesday, December 16.

Hulu's additions for the remainder of the month are largely television-focused, but film fans now have two attractive options to consider when making their next decision on a movie to watch on the streaming service.
