British VI Squad Target Strong Finish at São Paulo VI Grand Prix
This week marks the final IBSA Judo competition of the year, with a strong seven-member British VI squad, featuring both proven elites and emerging talents, competing at the Brazilian VI Grand Prix in São Paulo on 16–17 December.
The event promises an exciting conclusion to the season, with British athletes arriving in excellent form and determined to end the year with positive performances on the world stage. The squad features a blend of World Class Performance Programme (WCPP) athletes and Paralympic Potential judoka, all continuing their progression within the British Judo performance pathway.
The WCPP athletes head into São Paulo in particularly strong form, with all fighters currently ranked inside the top three in the world in their respective weight categories. Meanwhile, the Para Potential athletes are stepping up once again at international level, ready to test themselves against world-class opposition and continue their development.

The team will be led in São Paulo by Chris Barry and Kerry Tansey, who will oversee the athletes throughout the competition.
Head Paralympic Coach, Ian Johns, said, “The final event of what has been a very busy year, the São Paulo VI Grand Prix promises to be a great spectacle. The team are in excellent shape and are looking to finish the year with strong performances.
“We are in a really good place at the moment, with our World Class Performance Programme athletes all currently ranked inside the top three in the world in their respective weight categories. The Para Potential athletes are stepping up once again and, as always, will give their very best.
“Kudos to Chris Barry and Kerry Tansey, who will be leading the team on this occasion due to prior commitments on my part — I will be cheering the squad on from back home.”
