Musick Picks Up First Road Win at Arkansas

SPRINGFIELD – Arkansas women’s basketball (9-3) picked up its first true road win under first-year head coach Kelsi Musick on Saturday at Missouri State (7-4), 73-58.

The Hogs never trailed and were led by junior Jenna Lawrence with 17 points off the bench.

First Quarter – 17-6

  • Bonnie Deas scored the first points of the game at the 8:55 mark.
  • The Hogs got out to a 10-1 lead before Missouri State made its first field goal 5:43 mark.
  • Ashlynn Chlarson led the Hogs with six points and a pair of rebounds before the first media timeout.
  • Arkansas went on a three-minute scoring drought halfway through the first before Harmonie Ware made a pair of free throws to put the Hogs up 12-3.
  • Three Hogs picked up two fouls in the first quarter: Ware, Mayberry and Deas.
  • Missouri State shot 7% (1-14) from the field in the first compared to Arkansas’ 36.8% (7-19).

Second Quarter – 29-17

  • The Bears’ leading scorer, Kaemyn Bekemeier, opened the quarter with just their second field goal.
  • Missouri State started the quarter 1 for their first 8 from the field.
  • Arkansas led 22-10 at the second quarter media timeout.
  • The Bears ended the quarter 2 for their last 12.
  • Bekemeier was held to just four points.
  • Emily Robinson led all scorers with seven points after the first half.

Third Quarter – 50-32

  • Ware, Chlarson and Deas picked up their third personal fouls in the opening three minutes of the second half.
  • Arkansas passed the 40-point mark and led by 18, its largest of the game, after a jumper in the paint from Maryn Archer.
  • Missouri State hit its first three-pointer of the game at the 5:50 mark.
  • The Bears went on a 6-0 run to cut the Razorbacks’ lead to 12.
  • Arkansas responded with back-to-back buckets and the Bears called a timeout.
  • The Hogs went on an 8-0 run to go up 20 points with two minutes left in the third quarter.
  • The Razorbacks scored a game-high 21 points in the third quarter and led by 18 points after 30 minutes.

Fourth Quarter – 73-58

  • Deas was the first Razorback to enter double figures at the 8:58 mark in the fourth quarter.
  • Missouri State opened the quarter with a 10-0 run with back-to-back threes from Bekemeier and Janyla Bush to cut Arkansas’ lead to 12 with seven minutes to play.
  • Lawrence ended the Bears’ lead with a jumper out of the timeout.
  • Bekemeier hit another three and made two free throws to cut the Hogs’ lead to 10. Chlarson fouled out with 3:48 to play.
  • The Bears got as close as eight before Robinson hit her first three of the game to end their run.
  • Missouri State outscored Arkansas 26-23 in the fourth.

Game Notes

  • Arkansas was without its leading scorer, Taleyah Jones (16.7 points per game), for the second straight game.
  • Six Razorbacks had at least three fouls before the end of the third quarter.
  • Deas picked up her 10th game in double-figures and finished with 12 points and 8 rebounds.
  • The Hogs outrebounded Missouri State, 53-36, the second-largest margin in a game this season.
  • Arkansas led by as many as 22 points with 8:31 left in the game.
  • Five Razorbacks scored in double-figures: Lawrence (17), Deas (12), Robinson (12), Ashlynn Chlarson (10) and Maria Anais Rodriguez (10). Both of Arkansas’ bigs (Rodriguez and Chlarson) scored in double-figures in the same game for the first time this season.
  • The Hogs finished shooting 40.8% (29-71) from the field and held Missouri State to 29.3% (17-58).
  • Both teams finished with 18 turnovers.

Up Next

The Hogs will host Stephen F. Austin on Wednesday, Dec. 17 at Bud Walton Arena. Tip-off is set for 6:30 p.m.
