Spiders head coach Sean Crighton is pleased with how his team played the stormy conditions at The city Stadium despite losing a late equaliser.
Incessant rain, dull visibility and winds were an advert for summer football on Glasgow’s southside, as both teams battled out a 1-1 draw.
Despite being frustrated at the outcome and only taking one point from a possible three, head coach Crighton was satisfied his squad had taken on board his instructions from
He said: “It was something that I was frustrated about at Morton, I don’t think we played the conditions well enough in the second half and I’d spoken about it during the week, and we obviously weren’t sure how the weather was going to pan out.
“But I had something in my head that I knew that if it was going to be like a day that it was today that we would be better. I thought we played areas so much better today rather than trying to play the extra pass, but I think for me the game plan and that worked.”
Crighton’s side took the lead just before half-time thanks to a Henry Fieldson header but was cancelled out late from the visitors, despite captain Euan Murray’s defensive contributions. Here’s what the boss had to say regarding Murray coming off early with a knock.
“He’s just tightening up again we’re just trying to manage Murray because again he’s such a massive player for us… he was a warrior today an absolute warrior he just felt it tightening up again, he’s ok though but we just need to manage him.”
The captain put in a man of the match performance against his former club after being taken off early last week due to an injury. Murray made a last-ditch block to deny Barney Stewart the equaliser after rounding Cal Ferrie. He was then taken off from the resulting block after feeling some discomfort.
Sean Crighton will be hoping for a more clinical performance on Tuesday as The Spiders take on Clyde in the KDM Evolution Trophy after it was postponed last week.
