Manager gives ‘green light’ to move for £30m Tottenham player who impressed this week
A manager of a big European club has given his approval for an underused Tottenham star to be signed in January.
There was some big news just hours before Spurs’ clash against Slavia Prague on Tuesday.
Tottenham decided to replace Dominic Solanke in their Champions League squad with Mathys Tel, who impressed as a substitute in his first Champions League outing for the Lilywhites.
The 20-year-old has looked sharp whenever he has been handed an opportunity this season, but those have been few and far between.
In fact, the forward has only played 267 minutes in the Premier League this season, and there have been reports over recent weeks suggesting that Tel wants to leave in January in search of regular game time.
Serie A club’s manager approves signing of Tottenham forward Mathys Tel
It has been widely reported from sources in Italy over the last month that Tel is on the radar of AS Roma.
Some outlets have even claimed that Roma see the Tottenham man as their ‘ideal signing’ due to his ability to lead the line as well as play on the flanks.
A new report in Corriere della Sera (as relayed by Sport Witness) has now suggested that Giallorossi may be ready to advance their interest in Tel.
This is because their head coach, Gian Piero Gasperini, has now ‘given the green light’ for the Frenchman to be signed.
It is revealed that Roma have even contacted Tel’s representatives regarding a move to the Stadio Olimpico in January.
Spurs will not sell Tel permanently
It was previously reported by Gazzetta dello Sport that Tottenham have no intention of selling the former Bayern Munich man permanently, with a temporary move being the only option on the cards.
However, one would think that Spurs would want to keep the 20-year-old as a squad option, and one cannot rule out the forward breaking into the starting eleven over the next few weeks.
Thomas Frank recently hinted that none of his left-wing options have impressed this season, and the Tottenham head coach may now decide to give Tel a go ahead of both Wilson Odobert and Brennan Johnson.
