Liverpool team news v Brighton: Salah back on the bench as Slot makes two changes from midweek
Liverpool play their penultimate home match of 2025 this afternoon when they welcome Brighton to Anfield in the Premier League, with the Reds aiming to extend their unbeaten run to five matches.
A richly deserved victory away to Inter Milan in the Champions League was the perfect response to the drama over Mo Salah’s explosive comments after the 3-3 draw at Leeds last weekend, although the Egyptian is recalled to the squad for today’s fixture.
Arne Slot has a few injury worries on his plate for this game, with Jeremie Frimpong, Wataru Endo and Cody Gakpo all sidelined and Alexander Isak a doubt after picking up a knock at the San Siro. Conor Bradley serves a one-match suspension, although Federico Chiesa has recovered from illness.
With Liverpool playing before almost every other Premier League team this weekend, they have the chance to temporarily climb into the top six with a win over Brighton, who go to Anfield above the Reds in the table on goal difference.
Liverpool starting XI to face Brighton
Slot makes two changes from the Liverpool side which began the victory against Inter.
Alisson Becker is in goals behind a back four of Joe Gomez, Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate and Milos Kerkez, with the latter coming in for Andy Robertson on the left.
The midfield four of Ryan Gravenberch, Curtis Jonez, Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister is unchanged, with Florian Wirtz replacing Alexander Isak. Hugo Ekitike is set to lead the line for the Reds.
It means that Salah is left out of the starting XI once again, although he returns to the matchday squad among the substitutes. Young defenders Calvin Ramsay and Wellity Lucky are also on the bench for Liverpool this afternoon, along with a couple of other attacking options in Isak and Federico Chiesa.
