David Sodomka, Legend Paddler of the Year – 2025 Paddlers Awards Winners

This one is a special for us. We are stoked to announce David Sodomka as Legend Paddler of the Year for 2025!

You have definitely seen his name beside some unreal images: sunrise waterfall sends in perfect light, extraordinary photos of massive whitewater, drone shots of crazy riverscapes. In the past ten years, photographer David Sodomka has been on more trips than any other paddler on the planet, yet you will not find many photos or videos of him. And for a good reason: he’s usually hiding behind his camera, making others stand out in crisp detail amid the action. His relentless drive to explore remote gorges, charge steep creeks, and reveal the soul of whitewater has pushed his work to a level that stands out unmistakably within our community. But what’s impossible to ignore is that David is also an unreal paddler, because being a Class V-VI photographer, unless it is roadside, means running the same rapids as the people on the mission, oftentimes before anyone, therefore with minimal safety, and at best way after the group has paddled on. For his love for paddling and his remarkable skill on the river, it is our privilege at Kayak Session to say loud and clear how much we admire David Sodomka’s photography. Thanks so much for your contagious and continuous passion for the sport of whitewater kayaking. You are a true legend, David.

This award given this year to a photographer is also a chance for us to express our gratitude to all the photographers out there who inspire us and let us share the beauty of our sports through print and digital media.
