Myanmar Airstrike Kills 40, Injures 70 at Rakhine Hospital
An airstrike on a hospital in Myanmar’s Rakhine state has killed 40 people and injured 70, highlighting the ongoing humanitarian crisis.
An airstrike targeted a hospital in Rakhine state, Myanmar, killing 40 people and injuring 70, according to multiple international media reports. The attack has sparked outrage over civilian safety.
The Guardian reported that the airstrike occurred on the evening of December 10, 2025, striking the public hospital in Mrauk-U directly, causing significant destruction and casualties.
Local rebel group spokesperson Khin Tu Kha confirmed the attack and stated that the Mrauk-U hospital, which had 300 beds, was fully operational and directly hit by the airstrike.
Many patients had no other medical facilities available, as several hospitals across Rakhine have been closed due to ongoing conflict, leaving civilians vulnerable to both violence and lack of care.
Since the 2021 military coup that removed the elected government led by Nobel laureate Aung San Suu Kyi, Myanmar has been engulfed in civil conflict, intensifying attacks on civilian infrastructure.
International rights groups condemned the attack, highlighting violations of humanitarian law and the growing dangers faced by medical personnel and patients in conflict zones across Myanmar.
The ruling military council has not yet commented on the airstrike, raising concerns about accountability and the protection of civilians, particularly in conflict-affected areas of Rakhine state.
