Rumor Roundup: Mets Interested in Brenton Doyle
The Mets have a lot of holes to fill, and one is in the outfield. Rockies two-time Gold Glove center fielder Brenton Doyle is available via trade, and the Mets, Padres, Phillies, Yankees and other teams are showing interest, a league source told Ari Alexander of 7News Boston.
Doyle, 27, hit .233/.274/.376 with 15 homers and 57 RBIs last year. He stole 18 bases in 20 tries. He would fit in with David Stearns’ stated plan of focusing on run prevention.
Jon Heyman of the New York Post and MLB Network reported that the Mets, Yankees, most big-market teams and the Orioles have checked in on outfielder Kyle Tucker, who would go a long way toward replacing the production the Mets have lost from the departures of Pete Alonso and Brandon Nimmo.
Speaking of the Alonso exit, Tim Healey of the Boston Globe reports that the Mets have internally discussed a first-base platoon of Jeff McNeil and free agent Paul Goldschmidt.
Free agent reliever Kyle Finnegan agreed to a two-year, $19 million deal with the Tigers, Robert Murray of FanSided reported. The deal can max out at $20 million.
Also on the reliever front, Heyman reported that the Mets are interested in re-signing Tyler Rogers. Heyman adds that Rogers has a strong market, which isn’t surprising given that the 34-year-old led the majors in appearances and posted a 1.98 ERA in 2025.
Ken Rosenthal and Will Sammon of The Athletic reported that the Mets and other teams are “reluctant to go long-term” on starters Framber Valdez, Ranger Suarez and Japanese lefty Tatsuya Imai. The Marlins are making progress in talks to trade starter Edward Cabrera, and the Orioles are among the teams interested, though that report was before they spent money to sign Alonso.
Sammon mentioned that the Mets are interested in Cardinals outfielder Lars Nootbaar. The 28-year-old has two years left of club control and can play all three outfield positions, though he endured a disappointing 2025 with the bat.
