Sports Briefs: San Rafael’s Shapiro hits 1,000-point plateau
San Rafael High senior Luke Shapiro hit the 1,000-point milestone in his 80th career game, leading the Bulldogs to a 58-45 road win over Sonoma Valley in Tuesday’s non-league boys basketball action.
Shapiro nailed six 3-pointers as he finished with 36 points. He also turned in a strong defensive game with five steals and a block as the Bulldogs forced 21 turnovers.
Rocco Brovelli added nine points for San Rafael, which is scheduled to open the Rose City Tournament against Napa on Thursday.
- After a taut opening quarter, San Marin opened up a 25-point halftime lead en route to a 91-40 non-league victory over crosstown rival Novato in an MCAL preview Tuesday. The Mustangs (3-1) are scheduled to open the Rose City Tournament against Santa Rosa on Thursday. Novato (0-6) is scheduled to host American Canyon on Thursday.
- Marin Catholic (3-1) saw its streak end Tuesday with a 71-54 loss at San Ramon Valley on Tuesday. The Wildcats are scheduled to play Cornerstone Christian in tournament play on Thursday.
Girls basketball
Kitty White scored a game-high 26 points as Redwood High beat Salesian, 54-43, on Tuesday nIight. Drew Schultz added 13 points and Brooke Denler had 11 for the Giants (5-1), who are scheduled to play Colfax on Saturday.
Girls soccer
Six different MC players scored as the Wildcats secured an 8-0 victory against El Camino on Tuesday. Ava Korich had two goals and two assists to pace MC (1-0-2) while Nora Snearly added two goals and an assist. Lana Wihlborg and Siena White both had a goal and an assist. Elodie Snearly and Savannah Browne also found the back of the net.
