Zooey Deschanel Reveals Her Kids Think One of Her Most Famous Roles Is ‘A Little Weird’
While Elf is basically required yearly viewing in my house, the same can’t be said for one of the Christmas film’s stars Zooey Deschanel. She just revealed that her kids think her timeless holiday rom-com co-starring Will Ferrell is “a little weird,” and it’s so funny.
In an interview with E! News, the New Girl alum shared that her kids Elsie, 10, and Charlie, 8, who she shares with ex-husband Jacob Pechenik, haven’t ever had an entire viewing of the 2003 movie. “They’ve seen part of it, but they weren’t really that into watching it,” she told the outlet.
“I think it was a little weird,” Deschanel continued. I mean, it might be weird to see my mom in a film dressed as a department store elf, but for me and my three kids, we love this hilarious movie! Luckily for Deschanel, her kids’ friends might inspire them to finally watch it for the first time.
“A bunch of my daughter’s friends were talking about it,” she added. “So now she wants to watch it with her friends.”
Imagine your mom being in Elf, but you only watch it with your friends?! What a typical pre-teen.
In 2022, Deschanel admitted that her kids were “a little young” for Elf. “They still usually only watch animated movies,” she told Access Daily. “But it was a little scary for them.”
I mean, it is a little scary seeing a grown man in tights singing holiday telegrams to his dad and eating spaghetti with syrup… But that’s not actually the part the kids were worried.
“It sounds weird because it’s not a scary movie,” she said with a laugh. “But it was a little bit scary for them … the suspense of [Santa’s] sleigh going down.”
In an interview with SheKnows last year, the She & Him singer shared that she doesn’t watch the movie because that would be “kind of, like, narcissistic.” However, that doesn’t mean she is a Grinch. “I love decorating for Christmas,” Deschanel said, adding that the holidays mean singing Christmas carols, baking cookies, and spending time with loved ones, including her fiancé, Jonathan Scott.
“I love most of all, being with family,” she added.
Who needs to watch Deschanel on TV when they could just see her in real life around their own Christmas tree? Still, we can’t help but think once the kids watch it, they’ll finally see what they were missing out on.
These celebrity kids are giving their parents a humbling reality check by having zero interest in their movies.
