The Telegraph pointed out the council instructed workers to paint the markings for a handicapped parking spot around a legally parked car, which was left there when there were no markings.
Then the council had workers write four tickets.
The car owner, who was given anonymity by the publication, parked near his home in New Addington, in south London.
He then left on vacation.
He explained CCTV showed workers painting around his vehicle and then parking attendants writing tickets.
Council officials “apologized” and said the fines were being dropped.
“The local authority insisted it was ‘standard practice’ to paint around vehicles to prevent delays, but failed to prevent parking attendants from issuing fines,” the report explained.
The car owner said his holiday was spoiled, because he was monitoring his car through his security camera, and, “I didn’t want to go out and do the things I wanted to do because I was worried about the amount of tickets I was accumulating.”
