Amorim to make 2 changes | Predicted Man Utd XI vs Wolverhampton Wanderers as £33m star returns
Manchester United take on Wolverhampton Wanderers on the road in tonight’s Premier League clash.
The Red Devils are presently 12th in the league standings, but a victory at the Molineux Stadium would see them jump to sixth and just one point behind the final Champions League spot.
Wolves did the league double over United last term, but Ruben Amorim’s side are fully expected to beat the Midlands outfit this time. The hosts have picked up just two points all season.
Formation: 3-4-2-1
Predicted Line-up:
Senne Lammens has been an undisputed starter in goal since his debut against Sunderland in October. He has not kept a clean sheet since his maiden appearance and has a wonderful opportunity to end the streak against bottom club Wolves.
In the back three, there could be a solitary change from the 1-1 draw against West Ham United.
Matthijs de Ligt is expected to return after a minor injury. The £33 million-rated star should partner Luke Shaw and Noussair Mazraoui. The latter had his best outing versus the Hammers. Ayden Heaven should make way after a nervy 45-minute appearance.
Harry Maguire has been ruled out of the encounter with a hamstring concern. Lisandro Martinez could get another cameo appearance as he continues to build his fitness after a long-term knee injury lay-off.
Amad Diallo and Diogo Dalot are poised to continue in the right and left wing-back positions respectively against Wolves. Diallo indirectly contributed to Dalot’s goal against the Hammers with the help of a deflection.
Casemiro and Bruno Fernandes are nailed-on starters for United in the heart of the midfield. In his pre-match presser, Amorim hinted that Kobbie Mainoo is not good enough and he is playing as a backup for the latter.
In the final third, there could be a solitary change with Mason Mount coming in for Joshua Zirkzee. Zirkzee was denied a goal with a superb goalline clearance by Aaron Wan-Bissaka last time around.
Despite this, he could be dropped to the bench. Mount could partner with Bryan Mbeumo in the attacking midfield, allowing Matheus Cunha to lead the line against his former employers.
Cunha should have good knowledge about the weaknesses in the Wolves’ backline and will be determined to prove a point. He will be aiming to end his three-match goalless league streak.
Benjamin Sesko remains sidelined with a knee injury sustained against Tottenham Hotspur.
