Teachers strike over new evaluation plan
Secondary school teachers have proceeded with their announced work stoppage on Wednesday, striking until 11am to protest the new teacher’s evaluation plan before the House.
Student transportation was paused due to the strike, with parents asked to make arrangements to ensure their children arrive at school once the teachers return to work. Busses will run normally from noon.
The House education committee will hold a detailed discussion on the new evaluation scheme at 2pm.
President Nikos Christodoulides on Monday reiterated that the teacher evaluation reform must be approved, warning that delays would result in the loss of €60 million in funds from the EU Recovery and Resilience Fund. He insisted that “not a single euro will be allowed to be lost”.
