Kansas soccer selected as a three seed, will host first round NCAA Tournament game on Friday
LAWRENCE (KSNT)- Kansas soccer learned they will host California Baptist as the No. 3 seed in the NCAA Tournament, following Monday afternoon's NCAA Division I Women's Soccer Selection Show.
This marks the third time in program history the team has made back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances, and the first time since the 2018-19 seasons.
"I'm proud of this team for earning a three-seed. That's a reflection of a body of work for three months and more," Kansas soccer head coach Nate Lie told 27 Sports. "In order to be successful from the beginning of the season, we had to come in fit and our team worked hard to achieve that."
The Jayhawks are coming off a Big 12 Tournament Championship loss to BYU, losing 1-0. It was the 'Hawks second straight Big 12 Championship appearance.
Kansas is excited to host a game at Rock Chalk Park, its first time hosting since 2019.
"We have the best fan base and coming back from a week travel trip its especially nice to be in front of the home crowd," junior defender Caroline Castans said. "It's going to be a fun experience."
California Baptist is coming off its second-straight WAC tournament championship, beating Utah Valley in penalty kicks to stamp its bid back to the tournament.
The Lancers will enter the matchup with a 12-8-2 record. The winner of the Kansas-California Baptist match will face the winner of No. 6-seeded Louisville and Kentucky on Thursday, Nov. 20 in the second round.
Kickoff is set for Friday at Rock Chalk Park at 6 p.m.
