Five-star guard Austin Goosby to announce Friday
By ADAM ZAGORIA
Five-star Class of 2026 prospect Austin Goosby will announce his college choice on Friday.
Goosby, the 6-foot-5 combo guard out of Melissa (TX), is down to Duke, BYU, Baylor and Texas.
Goosby gave some brief thoughts on his top programs over the summer
Baylor: “Coach Scott Drew, his background speaks for itself. So he’s just a really good coach in general.”
BYU: “Coach [Kevin] Young, he has an NBA staff up there. So a lot of the things that he does are tailored to the NBA, so it’s really good.”
Duke: “Knowing their background, there’s not too much to say. Coach [Jon] Scheyer just had Cooper Flagg go to the league, No. 1 in the draft. So his resume speaks for itself already. [The offer] was pretty surreal. Growing up watching them play, all the championships, it’s just crazy getting the offer.”
As for his decision, he said: “I’ll know exactly what I want by the end of it. I should have a really good idea. Taking all these visits, I’ll have a big opportunity ahead. I’ll narrow it down after I’m done with all of these.”
Mainly, Goosby is looking for a place that will develop him as a player and a person. The four-star is ranked the No. 27 overall player in the 2026 class by 247Sports.
“You could put him in any situation and he will fit,” Melissa head coach Stephen Friar previously told ZAGSBLOG. “The game is slow for him, and he understands it. He does a great job of knowing what his team needs to be successful and plugging in the holes wherever they’re lacking something. Obviously he’s a great scorer. Very athletic, and a good defender, but his best quality is he is a great teammate.”
