Bodycam footage released in shooting of woman by police in Amherst
BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Body camera footage has been released by Amherst Police after a woman was shot by an officer late last month.
The shooting of the Amherst woman was deemed justified and she was charged after being injured in the shooting, the Erie County District Attorney's Office said Thursday.
Police shot 26-year-old Tonisha Green of Amherst at Colonie Apartments on Sweet Home Road and Durham Drive on the morning of Oct. 28.
Police had gone to the apartment complex around 11 a.m. to investigate a menacing complaint from the day before. It is alleged that Green "refused multiple commands" by officers to drop a knife over the course of multiple hours. Green was shot when she allegedly charged towards officers. She remains hospitalized at ECMC as she was shot in the abdomen.
On Thursday, Green was indicted on one count of second-degree menacing and four counts of menacing a police officer. She has been remanded without bail.
If convicted of the charges, Green faces up to 20 years in prison.
