Families of hostages break down in tears after they are freed by Hamas
Family and friends have been hearing the voices of Israeli hostages for the first time since they were abducted by Hamas on October 7, 2023.
Today has seen the release of all 20 living hostages in two groups, with the second batch being able to phone their families ahead of their release.
Julie, the mother of Bar Kupershtein, recounted the call: ‘Seeing my son after two years – what a boy, I’m dying. He said, “Mum, everything’s okay”.’
Donald Trump will soon meet with hostage families and address the Knesset, or parliament, an honour last extended to President George W. Bush during a visit in 2008. The remaining Israeli hostages will be released early tomorrow morning, Israel’s government spokeswoman has said.
Israel and Hamas have agreed to an exchange of the remaining Israeli hostages in Gaza for some of the thousands of Palestinian prisoners.
