On Love Is Blind, Jordan Keltner's Ex Is Doing Something No Single Mom Has Done
Love Is Blind season 9 star Jordan Keltner is the show’s first single dad, meaning his son’s mom is in totally unchartered waters.
Marrying someone you proposed to through a wall is already strange enough but after eight previous seasons, the concept of the show has proven itself to be successful in some cases. What we haven’t see yet, though, is how things pan out when you throw a child and that child’s other parent into the mix.
In season 6, Jessica Vestal became the first single parent on the show, deciding to keep her 11-year-old daughter a secret at the beginning of the process. “I want to give people the chance to get to know me individually first,” she explained in the show’s first episode. However, her time in the pods ended with no engagement, sparing us from having to see how she’d integrate someone from the blind dating experiment into her daughter’s life weeks before a wedding — let alone what her daughter’s dad would think!
In season 9, Jordan was quick to make it clear to any prospective partners that his son would be part of the package, gushing about 5-year-old Luca from the outset. In fact, revealing his son’s diabetes diagnosis was an instant point of connection with fiancée Megan Walerius whose late father had the same condition.
As the episodes and their engagement have progressed, however, more of the challenges associated with blending families have reared their head, not to mention the additional challenges that come with doing it all on an accelerated timeline in front of cameras.
Top of mind for Megan, Jordan and us as viewers is how Luca’s mom might feel about her son gaining a bonus mom who entered their family in the most unorthodox of ways. And while we didn’t get an exact insight into what Jordan’s ex thinks, we certainly got the sense that protecting Luca was her number one priority.
Jordan’s son’s mom, Skylar, made her impact off camera, opting to meet Megan before she was introduced to Luca.
“She’s going to love you, I promise,” Jordan assured Megan before the meeting while Megan wondered if it was all too much of a risk. “I’m not worried about loving Luca. I already do love Luca. There are just so many unknowns,” she said.
Megan’s seemed pleased after meeting with Luca’s mom, telling the ladies at a cast meetup later in episode 9 that Skylar is “super cute.”
“It felt like normal, maybe not family,” Megan said. “But honestly, there was no tension between them. There was no tension between us.” However, she admitted to having concerns about bonding with Luca after Jordan and Skylar decided together to not put their son on camera, “Which I get,” Megan added.
“‘Cause what if I don’t meet him for two weeks and then we’re getting married a week later?” she asked Jordan in episode 7. This also means that Megan won’t experience living with Jordan’s son until after marriage, another potential risk.
With only a few episodes to go until Megan and Jordan say “I do” or “I don’t,” Megan’s relationship with Luca seems like the most vital piece of the puzzle and we certainly applaud his mom for how she’s handling things.
