Appeal in Kaylin Gillis murder case cites unfair trial process
HEBRON, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The man convicted of killing 20-year-old Kaylin Gillis in April 2023 has filed an appeal. Kevin Monahan is claiming he did not receive a fair trial.
Monahan is accusing the prosecutors of repeated misconduct, including making inflammatory and speculative remarks. His appeal also claims there was insufficient evidence to prove reckless endangerment or depraved indifference to human life, which is required to convict someone of second degree murder.
Monahan was sentenced in 2024 to 25 years to life in prison for shooting and killing Gillis when she and a group of friends mistakenly pulled into Monahan's driveway in Hebron. As they were turning around, Monahan fired his shotgun at their vehicles, striking Gillis and killing her.
