Voluntary water restrictions to begin in Saratoga Springs
SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Saratoga Springs residents are being asked to voluntarily reduce outdoor watering due to high temperatures and increased demand on the water system. The recommended restrictions begin on Tuesday, Aug. 12.
People who live in odd-numbered houses can water lawns and landscaping on odd-numbered dates. Houses with an even number can water on even-numbered days. There should also be no watering or car washing between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. due to evaporation rates.
There are no restrictions for outdoor watering with hand-held devices for gardens, plants, trees, or shrubs.
The Saratoga Springs Department of Public Works said the water treatment plant pumped an average of 4.3 million gallons per day in 2024; however, during June and July this year, the treatment plant pumped 5.2 and 6.6 million gallons per day, respectively.
The voluntary restrictions are a precautionary measure to reduce volume. They will remain in place until further notice.
Anyone with questions should call the DPW at 518-587-3550 ext. 2555.
