Storms and cooler weather return later this weekend
What We’re Tracking
- Another hot day ahead
- Storm chances return tonight
- Cool down on the way
Some scattered storms to begin Saturday morning with those expected to clear by this afternoon. A Heat Advisory is in effect for areas south and east of the Kansas Turnpike lasting through 8 PM. Highs today will stay on the hotter side of average, with highs reaching the mid-90s. South winds will remain breezy, gusting near 30 mph once again. Humidity will stick around, with dew points climbing into the low 70s.
Our next good chance for rain arrives tonight. Strong storms are possible tonight, but the better chance for storms comes Sunday night. Heavy rainfall is likely through Sunday into Monday morning as an upper-level trough moves overhead. The main threat with these storms will be localized flooding as many in Northeast Kansas are under a Flood Watch until Monday morning. While the rain may put a damper on weekend plans, it will also bring some relief from the heat.
Highs on Sunday will dip into the upper 80s, and by Monday we’ll only top out in the lower 80s. A few showers could linger into the start of the workweek, keeping Monday and Tuesday cooler and on the damp side. We will dry out for the second half of the week.
