Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Paul Tonko to hold Plattsburgh town hall
PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (ABC22/FOX44) -- The Strand Center for the Arts announced Friday that Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-New York) and Paul Tonko (D-Amsterdam) will be in downtown Plattsburgh Sunday afternoon.
The town hall, which is being called "Discussing the Big, Ugly Bill and its destructive impact on New York families," will be held from noon to 2 p.m. on Sunday at the Strand Center Theatre. Both representatives voted against the "One Big Beautiful Bill Act" and have criticized its changes to Medicaid and other welfare programs.
Rep. Ocasio-Cortez, often known as "AOC," has been called "perhaps the best positioned to be [Bernie] Sanders’s successor atop his progressive movement." Rep. Paul Tonko represents a district in the Capital Region and is the highest-ranking Democrat on the House panel that oversees the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-Schuylerville), whose NY-21 district includes Plattsburgh, released a statement calling the visit a "North Country political implosion." She warned of AOC's "radical policies" and said it would only help her "strong support" in northeastern New York.
The Strand asked interested people to RSVP to the event.
