Saatva stands out by offering a luxury experience at a reasonable price.

When it comes to luxury sleep products, Saatva stands out as a pioneer in the mattress industry. Since 2010, Saatva has balanced traditional mattress craftsmanship with modern sustainability practices. Each bed is handcrafted to order in the United States, using eco-friendly materials like recycled steel coils, organic cotton, and CertiPUR-US-certified foams free from heavy metals and harmful chemicals like formaldehyde. The company even uses natural thistle pulp as a flame-retardant barrier, demonstrating a commitment to environmental responsibility and safety.

What truly sets Saatva apart is its competitive pricing for a luxury brand. Your order includes a one-year sleep trial, lifetime warranty, and free white-glove delivery service — a refreshing departure from the compressed mattress trend. Since the bed arrives at full size, there's no off-gassing; you can sleep on your mattress immediately. We've tested over 100 mattresses for our best mattress guide, and we've found Saatva's quality and attention to detail consistently impressive. Below, we'll share why these mattresses have earned our expert recommendation and why they may be right for you.

Trial and warranty policies

Saatva’s trial period and warranty differ significantly from industry standards in both positive and negative ways. Notably, they offer a 365-night sleep trial — a full year to evaluate your mattress compared to the typical 100 nights provided by competitors like Leesa and Casper. Yet, there’s an important caveat: Saatva charges a $99 transportation fee for returns, effectively making their trial period conditional, rather than truly risk-free like many direct-to-consumer brands.

The warranty structure also presents an interesting mix of limitations and benefits. While the lifetime coverage exceeds the industry-standard 10-year warranty, it comes with tiered coverage. During the first two years, you’ll receive comprehensive protection with a full replacement for defective mattresses. Beyond that initial period, Saatva offers two options: they’ll repair or re-cover your mattress for a transportation fee. Alternatively, you can opt for their “Fairness Replacement Option,” allowing you to buy a new bed at a significantly lower price.

As with most mattress warranties, maintaining coverage requires proper foundation support — either a solid platform or slats spaced no more than 4 inches apart. This structural requirement aligns with industry standards for ensuring optimal performance and keeping mattress integrity over time.

Saatva Classic

The Saatva Classic offers a balance of attainable pricing and luxury design. The mattress construction begins with a 3-inch Euro pillow top crafted from organic cotton. Below that is zoned memory foam support for enhanced pressure relief and spinal alignment, followed by a dual-coil system that combines individually wrapped comfort coils with a durable base layer for longevity and optimal airflow.

Several performance aspects stood out in my testing. The mattress excels in temperature regulation, making it an excellent option for warm sleepers. The edge support proved exceptional thanks to high-density foam reinforcement around the perimeter — a crucial feature for couples sharing a bed. Yet, motion isolation testing showed some limitations. While everyday movements weren't particularly disruptive, standardized tests using bowling balls and vibrometer readings indicated average performance in this category.

The Classic is Saatva's most popular mattress. It comes in three firmness options.

The Classic offers substantial customization options for different sleep preferences, available in 11.5- and 14.5-inch profiles and three firmness levels — Plush Soft, Luxury Firm, and Firm.

As a side sleeper testing the Luxury Firm model, I found insufficient give for optimal spinal alignment, though back-sleeping experiences were notably better. Senior home editor Jaclyn Turner's long-term testing revealed excellent back support, albeit with an initial adjustment period.

Saatva Zenhaven

The Saatva Zenhaven is an intriguing natural latex mattress with a flippable dual-sided design between Luxury Plush and Gentle Firm. It also boasts impressive eco-credentials, including GOTS-certified organic wool and organic cotton.

The five-zone natural latex layer incorporates vented airflow channels for breathability. This attention to heat dissipation proved effective during testing, aided by the moisture-wicking properties of the wool layer and the naturally cooling organic cotton cover. The durable latex core provided a solid foundation, contributing to impressive edge support.

Yet, the mattress's dual-sided design, marketed as Luxury Plush and Gentle Firm, was disappointing. Both sides exhibited firmer-than-expected feels, with less distinguishable difference between them than advertised. This firmness profile is especially challenging for side sleeping, where insufficient pressure relief caused me occasional morning soreness, particularly in the leg and neck areas. While my sleep tracker showed average sleep quality scores, my detailed sleep notes revealed a pattern of interrupted rest.

The Zenhaven is best suited for back and stomach sleepers who like a firmer feel.

Motion isolation testing yielded mixed results. The mattress performed adequately in real-world scenarios — I didn't feel it much when my partner moved on the bed — but failed my standardized bowling ball test.

For those seeking an eco-friendly mattress with superior temperature control and edge support, the Zenhaven is a compelling option. However, side sleepers and those expecting true plush comfort might want to explore alternatives, as both sides trend firmer than average.

Saatva HD

The Saatva HD is a luxury hybrid mattress specifically designed to support plus-size bodies between 300 and 500 pounds. It is most comparable to the Saatva Classic, but with an intentional design focus on extra durable materials, featuring high-density foams, latex for added durability, reinforced foam rails around the edges, and extra-thick steel coils that won't sag.

As a heavy person myself, this is my favorite mattress of all time. Unlike other plus-size specific mattresses, which are often too firm for my liking, the Saatva HD had a perfect medium-firm feel that was comfortable in every sleeping position. It's supportive, too: I felt noticeably pain-free when I awoke in the morning because my pressure points were cradled throughout the night.

The Saatva HD is a splurge, but I think it's worth it if it's in your budget. I'll be sleeping on it for years.

It also performed well in all of our tests, especially excelling in motion isolation and edge support. Since I share the bed with my partner, motion isolation and edge support are both incredibly important to me. I never noticed his movements in the night, and felt comfortable even when I shifted towards the edge of the mattress. Echoing other Saatva mattresses that sleep cool, the bed doesn't trap heat.

Saatva Solaire

The Saatva Solaire Adjustable Firmness Mattress stands out in the adjustable air bed category, especially for couples seeking a mattress with customizable comfort and a substantial weight capacity. With its impressive 1,600-pound weight limit, the Solaire addresses a critical need while providing 50 comfort levels on each side of the bed — significantly outpacing the 20 settings found in Sleep Number beds.

The nuanced adjustability was a blessing and a learning experience during the testing period. The expansive 1-50 firmness scale allowed for precise tuning, though finding the perfect setting required some experimentation. For context, my optimal side-sleeping position was 27, while my wife preferred a firmer 37 setting for back sleeping. This versatility proved particularly valuable when back pain from physical activity made side sleeping uncomfortable. I could easily increase firmness for proper spinal alignment while sleeping on my stomach.

While it's Saatva's priciest option, the Solaire can accommodate your custom comfort needs.

The edge support shined in my tests, offering stable perimeter integrity for both reclined and seated positions. Yet, motion isolation was a notable limitation, with significant movement transfer across the surface — confirmed through both subjective testing and our standardized bowling ball test. For couples prioritizing motion isolation, the split mattress configuration might be a better solution. We tested the flex top king variant, which features a divided upper section while maintaining a connected lower portion.

Other Saatva mattresses to consider

The Saatva Rx is specifically designed for individuals with chronic pain.

Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid: Saatva's most affordable mattress combines memory foam layers with pocket coils, providing a balanced sleep experience. It still offers zoned support for enhanced pressure relief while costing $100 less than the Classic. The core design difference is that the Classic has a dual-spring design with a thin high-density foam layer for lumbar support whereas the memory foam hybrid sandwiches the individually wrapped coils between a 1.5-inch gel-infused comfort layer and a one-inch base layer foam for support and durability. Unlike the Classic, though, it's only available in one firmness and is particularly well-suited for side sleepers seeking plush comfort without sacrificing spinal alignment and also offers better motion isolation

Saatva Latex Hybrid: Combining natural Talalay latex, pocket springs, and organic cotton and wool for a responsive, eco-conscious sleep, the Latex Hybrid differs from the fully latex Zenhaven by providing a more traditional hybrid feel with the coil system lending more breathability.. The Zenhaven costs about $900 more but has a flippable design with two comfort options. It differs from the Classic as it's fully organic, while the Classic features foam. The Classic is $400 less but is available in three firmness options. The Latex Hybrid just delivers a medium-firm feel that will appeal more to stomach and back sleepers.

Saatva Contour5: With its unique five-zone design, the all-foam Saatva Contour5 is particularly beneficial for back pain sufferers and those needing enhanced lumbar support. It features advanced memory foam layers with phase change material for temperature regulation. The bed is designed to excel at pressure point relief while keeping your spine aligned. Side sleepers and lighter individuals should consider the Medium firmness option, while heavier individuals and back and stomach sleepers might benefit from the Firm more.

Saatva Rx: Designed specifically for individuals with chronic pain conditions, the Saatva Rx features a specialized zoned micro-coil layer and Lumbar Zone Quilting for added support in the middle third of the mattress. Its unique combination of pressure-relieving AirCel memory foam and lumbar-focused coils targets pain points while maintaining optimal spinal alignment. Best suited for sleepers with arthritis, herniated discs, scoliosis, or sciatica, the supportive plush feel will likely be most comfortable for side sleepers, petite individuals, and older folks.

Other Saatva products we love

The Saatva Latex Pillow earned a spot in our best pillow guide. It's especially well suited for back sleepers.

Saatva Latex Pillow: The Saatva Latex Pillow features a distinctive shredded latex core enveloped by down alternative and wrapped in premium sateen cotton. Its dual-layer construction delivers an impressive balance of plushness and support, supplying the cloud-like feel of down with the stability of foam. It is available in standard (4-to-5-inch) and high (6-to-7-inch) loft options. We tested it for our best pillow guide and found it maintained consistent support and shape while offering superior temperature regulation. The pillow excels for back sleepers seeking that ideal combination of structure and cushioning, though stomach sleepers might find even the standard loft too elevated. Its hypoallergenic properties make it an excellent choice for sensitive sleepers.

Saatva Mattress Protector: Saatva's waterproof mattress protector incorporates a tightly woven organic cotton knit that wicks away moisture and a virtually undetectable polyurethane layer to block liquid from seeping through. Even better, it's completely noiseless and stays in place, fitting mattresses up to 16 inches thick. It has a canvas feel that's not soft to the touch, but you won't feel it through your sheets.

Saatva Graphite Memory Foam Mattress Topper: We almost included this topper in our best mattress topper guide, but it wasn't the best in any of our categories. Its medium firmness was comfortable and supportive to sleep on, no matter my position. It does a good job of dissipating heat and features straps to secure it to your bed. However, it shifted in the night, and the topper had poor motion isolation. Still, if you're not ready to replace your mattress and want to upgrade its feel, this is a great option.

Saatva FAQs

Where can I buy a Saatva mattress?

Saatva primarily sells its mattresses directly to consumers through its website. While it doesn't have traditional retail stores, it maintains viewing rooms in 20 major cities, including Chicago, San Francisco, New York City, Boston, Los Angeles, and Washington, D.C. These locations allow customers to test mattresses in person before buying.

For those not near a viewing room, Saatva provides a 365-night home trial. This gives you a full year to test the bed in your own space, though there is a $99 transportation fee for returns. Every purchase includes free in-home delivery, setup, and old mattress removal.

Where is Saatva made?

Saatva mattresses are handcrafted in 14 factories nationwide, each made to order only after purchase. The company partners with established American manufacturers specializing in luxury mattresses, sourcing materials domestically (like recycled steel coils) and internationally (such as organic New Zealand wool and cotton) to meet quality standards.

Who should buy a Saatva mattress?

Saatva mattresses are perfect for folks looking for specialized support features and premium materials at a reasonable price. The lineup especially appeals to those with specific needs: the RX for chronic pain sufferers, the HD for plus-size sleepers, the Classic for traditional innerspring fans, and various hybrid models for those seeking targeted pressure relief.

Saatva is excellent for side sleepers needing zoned support, back pain sufferers requiring lumbar support, and hot sleepers seeking a breathable bed. Saatva's free white-glove delivery makes them the ideal choice for those wanting a hassle-free setup.

Why is Saatva so expensive? Is it worth it?

Saatva's higher price point reflects several luxury features: high-end materials, like Talalay latex and organic cotton; specialized technologies, such as targeted coil systems and lumbar zone enhancements; and handcrafted construction.

Unlike bed-in-a-box brands, Saatva includes free white-glove delivery and setup, plus mattress removal. Their durability often means lower cost-per-year compared to less expensive alternatives that may need replacing sooner. While not the cheapest option, the brand's lengthy warranty, specialized support features, and quality construction make them a worthwhile investment for those prioritizing mattress lifespan and sleep quality.
