American Museum of Natural History offers free membership to SNAP beneficiaries
UPPER WEST SIDE, Manhattan (PIX11) -- The American Museum of Natural History, one of New York City's most popular summer spots, will become more accessible to more residents this summer.
A new museum membership level called Discoverer has launched for beneficiaries of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). It comes alongside the premiere of the Museum’s newest space show, "Encounters in the Milky Way."
"The new Discoverer membership exemplifies our conviction that the Museum, and science, belong to everyone, and everyone belongs at the Museum. I hope our new Member families will enjoy many days of fun, learning, and enrichment here," said Museum President Sean M. Decatur.
The Discoverer membership includes general Museum admission as well as admission to one ticketed exhibition. Cardholders are also able to bring up to four guests on each visit.
To enroll, beneficiaries can present their EBT card at the American Museum of Natural History and receive a digital membership card to start using the same day. Once enrolled, Discoverer members will be able to reserve tickets on the Museum’s website in advance of their visit.
"Access to New York City’s world-class cultural and educational institutions should never be dependent on a household’s income or background, and our agency is committed to working with our partners in and outside of government to develop new ways to expand access to these critical institutions for the millions of New Yorkers we serve," said NYC Department of Social Services Commissioner Molly Wasow Park.
New Yorkers can find more information on the Discoverer Membership online.
