HICKSVILLE, N.Y. (PIX11) – An alleged fortune teller is accused of scamming a 68-year-old woman out of $20,000 on Long Island, according to the Nassau County Police Department.
Police said the victim gave $20,000 to 33-year-old Hemanth Kumar Muneppa for fortune-telling services back on July 3. The woman then sought more fortune-telling services at Anjana Ji, located in Hicksville, on Thursday, according to authorities.
Police said she was driven to a bank on Broadway to withdraw $42,000 from her account for the service. The victim was told she might be getting scammed and called police, according to authorities.
Police said Muneppa was arrested in the parking lot of the bank and charged with grand larceny, attempted grand larceny and fortune telling. He will be arraigned on Friday.
Anyone who believes they were a victim of Muneppa is asked to call the Second Squad at 516-573-6200.
