President Mnangagwa congratulates Sables after Kenya victory

PRESIDENT Emmerson Mnangagwa has congratulated the Zimbabwe senior men’s national rugby team, the Sables following their hard fought six-point victory over Kenya in the semi finals of the 2025 Rugby Africa Cup in Uganda on Sunday.
Pieter Benade’s men put up a spirited second half performance to win the crucial encounter 26-23 and progress to the finals of the continental showpiece.
In a social media post, President Mnangagwa said the Sables have made Zimbabwe proud and their fighting spirit is a reflection of the nation’s resilience.
He also wished them luck as they are now one win away from securing their spot at the 2027 Rugby World Cup in Australia.
“Congratulations to the Zimbabwe Sables for their hard-fought 29–23 victory over Kenya, securing a place in the Rugby Africa Cup final. You have made the nation proud. The spirit, discipline, and determination you continue to show on the field are a reflection of the strength and resilience of our people. We stand behind you as you march forward—good luck in the final,” read the post.
The Sables were trailing 18-13 at half time and managed to add 16 points to the board to secure a hard fought win over the Simbas.
They will now face arch rivals Namibia in the final on Saturday where the winner will qualify for the 2027 Rugby World Cup in Australia.
The Welwitchias booked their spot in the final after a 21-7 win over last year’s runners up Algeria.
