Female author Nonduduzo Ncube is set to release a book titled Isihlalo Sika Baba on July 18, which focuses on the social, emotional and financial effects that single mothers and their children experience due to the absence of the father.
Categorised under the Drama genre, Ncube said the book’s inspiration partly came from her life situation, as her dad was absent in her upbringing.
“This is my third book and it focuses on the social, financial and emotional impact of absent fathers in many families, including my own. With Isihlalo Sika Baba, I wanted to give a voice to the silent pain that children carry up to adulthood when they grow up without a father figure.
“On this dramatic book, some of the segments were inspired by my experiences, fused with other imagined circumstances that happen in our daily lives. I felt like this issue is affecting many in our societies, hence the reason to pen the book,” said Ncube.
She said through the book she is hoping to spark conversations about the importance of the presence of both parents within a family setup, as well as exposing the wounds and hurt caused by fathers who neglect their children.
She gave appreciation to Zibusiso Mabonisa and Artwell Sibanda who helped her refine the book, as well as a couple of friends who read the book’s manuscripts before publication and as they gave her constructive feedback.
