Poll: Majority of New Yorkers opposed to federal spending bill
ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10)---According to the Siena Research Institute, a majority of empire state voters do not think the Big Beautiful Bill will improve the life of most Americans.
The latest Siena Poll asked New York voters about President Trump’s Big Beautiful Bill. Pollster Steve Greenberg said there is a big partisan divide.
"Sixty-nine percent of Democrats think that the Big Beautiful Bill will worsen life for most Americans," said Greenberg. "Fifty-five percent of Republicans, and I would say only fifty-five percent of Republicans, think the Big Beautiful Bill will improve life for most Americans, and by a two-to-one margin, forty-nine to twenty-five percent of Independents do not like the Big Beautiful Bill."
Among the most unpopular issues in the bill is cutting taxes for corporations.
"Only twenty-four percent of New Yorkers support it. Sixty-one percent oppose it."
Also unpopular is reducing spending on SNAP benefits.
"Overwhelmingly, sixty-six to forty-three percent of New Yorkers say they oppose that idea."
However, there are some proposals that do have support.
"What we found was eliminating income tax on tips—overwhelming popular," explained Greenberg. " Sixty-one percent of New Yorkers support it. Twenty-one percent oppose it. It’s got support from seventy-nine of Republicans, fifty-nine percent of Independents, and fifty-four of Democrats. So we have an issue all the parties can agree on.
As where things currently stand on the bill, it recently passed through the U.S. Senate and has been sent back to the House of Representatives.
