Bride and guest killed after gunmen open fire at wedding reception in France
Two people including the bride were shot dead at a wedding reception in France last night.
Three people were also injured, according to a source close to the investigation, Le Parisien reported.
Four hooded men arrived at the end of the party in Goult, Vaucluse, and opened fire at around 4.30am this morning, the paper said.
The tragic incident happened as the bride and groom were leaving the village hall in a car with their 13-year-old son, and encountered the attackers who arrived in a Golf 8 and began firing.
In an attempt to escape, the groom reversed his car and hit one of the assailants.
The bride as well as the other victim died at the scene.
France 3 said that the groom and the child were seriously hurt, while a relative of the wedding party also sustained minor injuries.
The broadcaster said one ot the four attackers also died, and was ‘probably hit by the groom’s car’ as he tried to escape.
Police are still searching for the other three attackers.
Local media said no theories of a motive had yet been ruled out, but police are considering whether it could be a settling of scores related to the drugs trade.
They reported that the groom was known to police for charges of criminal conspiracy and drug violations.
