Iran launches new wave of missile and drone strikes on Israel
Iran launched a new wave of missile and drone strikes on Israel, intensifying regional tensions and raising fears of wider conflict.
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced that it carried out “Operation True Promise 3” early Saturday, June 21, using Shahed-136 suicide drones to target sites in Israel. According to IRGC statements, military and logistical centers at Ben Gurion Airport were among the primary targets.
The IRGC claimed in its official communiqué that all designated targets were successfully destroyed. However, no independent confirmation of these assertions has been made.
Israeli authorities have yet to comment on the attack or its impact, including any potential casualties or damage sustained. Local media in Israel reported heightened air-defense activity overnight without sharing further details.
The IRGC further asserted that its drones evaded Israel’s most advanced anti-aircraft systems, demonstrating the potency of its drone and missile capabilities. It also warned that combined drone and missile strikes will continue against Israeli targets as long as tensions persist.
This comes after the Iran’s Foreign Minister held talks yesterday with his French, British, and European Union counterparts, calling on them to take action to stop ongoing Israeli strikes. According to Al Jazeera, the Iranian FM emphasized that continued attacks by Israel are destabilizing the region and urged European leaders to intervene and promote a ceasefire to prevent further escalation.
Meanwhile, the U.S. President Donald Trump reiterated his unwavering support for Israel, stating that it must be allowed to defend itself against any threat. Israeli officials have also declared they will respond forcefully to any further provocations, underlining the tense and fragile situation across the Middle East.
This latest attack underscores a worrying escalation between the two regional powers at a time of heightened Middle East instability. Analysts at Al Jazeera noted that drone technology has become central to Iran’s asymmetric warfare strategy against its adversaries.
