WOODHAVEN, Queens (PIX11) -- A man accused of snatching an 11-year-old girl off her bike and groping her in a Queens park tried to evade cops by hiding under an umbrella, authorities said.
Teddy Moussignac, 44, of Ozone Park, was indicted Friday on kidnapping and sexual assault charges in connection with the May 19 incident in Forest Park, prosecutors said.
Moussignac allegedly threatened to kill the girl after grabbing her off her bike in the park, authorities said.
“If you scream, I will kill you,” he allegedly told the child after putting his hands over her mouth and nose, according to the criminal complaint.
Moussignac allegedly dragged her into the woods before groping her breast and punching her in the face and thigh, prosecutors said.
The child had scratches on her arms, and her face was swollen after the attack, according to the complaint.
The girl’s father saved her after seeing her abandoned bike on the pavement, police said. The 31-year-old dad screamed at the suspect, scaring him off.
Moussignac then tried to escape, but the dad spotted him sitting in the bleachers and shielding himself with an umbrella, according to court records.
“This is every parent’s nightmare. A father was accompanying his daughter on a bike ride in the park when she was grabbed and assaulted. As alleged, the father startled the defendant as he was attacking the child, and he later pointed the defendant out to police. The NYPD’s quick action led to the defendant’s apprehension, and we thank them," Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz said.
Moussignac was also charged with assault, forcible touching, and endangering the welfare of a child, officials said.
He is due back in court on July 11. His attorney could not be reached Friday.
