Portland ranks among best US cities to raise a family in new study
PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) -- WalletHub has ranked 180 cities across the U.S. and listed of the best places to raise a family in 2025, and Portland, Oregon is among the top 25.
Determining the "best" of anything may be a subjective art, but WalletHub has it down to an equation. Each city's score is determined using five main categories: Family Fun, Health and Safety, Education and Child Care, Affordability, and Socioeconomics.
Portland is the first Oregon city mentioned at no. 22. Portland received a composite score of 61, with Health and Safety being the least impressive category where Portland ranked 116th out of 182. The most impressive was Portland's no. 7 ranking in Education and Childcare.
Niche, a website ranking and providing information on individual schools and districts alike, made a list of the best school districts in Portland as of 2025 -- citing Lake Oswego, Riverdale and Camas as the top three.
