LA ICE raids spark fear, family separation in immigrant communities
PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) -- Nationwide attention is focused on Los Angeles as recent ICE raids have led to widespread detentions of undocumented immigrants, from adults to children, at locations like Home Depot, Walmart, and even schools. The sweeps, ordered by the Trump administration, have left communities reeling.
Palmira Figueroa, communications director at NDLON, an LA-based immigrant rights group, says the raids have directly impacted families and workers they support. Some detained individuals were taken along with family members, heightening fears across the city.
Figueroa emphasized that while unrest has triggered a curfew in a small area of LA, peaceful protests are being overshadowed.
NDLON and other organizations are working to provide accurate information and resources to undocumented individuals who now live in fear of deportation and family separation.
She also encouraged people to connect with local worker centers, such as Portland-based VOZ, to learn how to support affected communities.
