Mindy Kaling Explains Why She Took a Step Back from Acting
Mindy Kaling is addressing her break from acting.
While she’s stayed busy writing, producing, and directing TV shows, the 45-year-old star last acted in 2023 when she appeared on an episode of The Morning Show.
In a new interview, Mindy explained why she stepped back from acting and didn’t make a cameo on her Netflix series Never Have I Ever, which was partly inspired by her own Indian American upbringing.

“I think there is a part of me that feels a little superstitious,” Mindy admitted. “I’m like, these seem to have gone well and I’m not in them so maybe I’ll wait.”
However, Mindy did confess that she may be having a change of heart.
“I miss it,” Mindy said. “I would like to write or co-create a show for me to act in soon.”
She went on to note that pulling double duty as writer and actress is “unbelievably fun and it’s so efficient.”
“I would love to do that again,” Mindy shared. “That’s the thing that maybe in the next couple years, when I launch a couple other things that are earlier in the pipeline, that would be something that would be fun to do again.”
Earlier this year, it was announced that Mindy has a new show in the works at Hulu!
