Roseanne Barr is America: Iconic Trump Supporting Comedian Roseanne Barr Returns in Triumphant New Film

Investigative journalist and filmmaker Joel Gilbert with Roseanne Barr

Joel Gilbert, an investigative journalist and filmmaker, recently authored a series of articles on New York Attorney General Letitia James for The Gateway Pundit under the banner “The Letitia Files”. He has just announced the release of his new film Roseanne Barr Is America, featuring the iconic Trump supporting comedian. The film’s World Premiere will be held at the National Press Club in Washington DC on June 9, and the public is invited.

In the film, Roseanne Barr first tells her life story, and then focuses on the political forces that “canceled” her from Hollywood in 2018 for being a Trump supporter, both on television and in real life. The World Premiere screening will be held at the National Press Club in Washington DC on June 9 and the public is invited.

The film will then be available Video on Demand in 86 million homes including every major satellite and cable provider, plus on DVD and all major Livestreaming services including Itunes, Amazon Prime, and You Tube movies. Joel Gilbert provided this interview about the film and Roseanne Barr to The Gateway Pundit.

Why did you decide to produce the Roseanne Barr is America film?

Gilbert: I believe that Roseanne Barr is a very important figure in America today, whose full story had not been told. In Roseanne Barr is America, Roseanne puts her entire life story together for the very first time, narrating an amazing and often hilarious life journey. You will learn more about her life and politics than you can imagine.

Why Roseanne?

Gilbert: Roseanne is a comedy legend as well as a patriotic American whose passion for country is unrivaled. While she has legions of fans to this day, she is still misunderstood by many due to how the media and Democrats falsely portrayed her over a misunderstood tweet in 2018 in order to cancel her from Hollywood.

Why were Roseanne and her show “canceled” in 2018?

Gilbert: Roseanne Barr was the most high-profile victim of cancel culture. For the 2018 reboot of her popular Roseanne Show, Roseanne’s idea was to have a Trump supporter and a Hillary supporter living under the same roof who were in conflict, but still loved each other.

Roseanne played the Trump supporter and was also one in real life. The revived Roseanne show had huge ratings and went to number one. Meanwhile, Roseanne had been communicating with women in Iran involved in the anti-Hijab movement and also had concerns about Barack Obama’s Iran nuclear deal. She knew Valerie Jarrett was an Obama advisor.

A comedian with an edgy sense of humor, when Roseanne saw a Twitter meme of Valerie Jarrett next to actress Helena Bonham Carter, she replied with a humorous political joke – that if the Muslim Brotherhood organization and the Planet of the Apes movie had a baby, it would be Valerie Jarrett.

She was making the point that the totalitarianism of the Muslim brotherhood combined with the militaristic world in the Planet of the Apes movie made up for Valerie Jarret’s ideology.

However, the left was searching for ways to demonize Trump supporters as being racist, and for them Roseanne was the perfect high-profile target. So, they misconstrued Roseanne’s tweet as “racist” and outrageously claimed Roseanne, a lifelong civil rights and gay rights activist, was “a racist”.

How did Roseanne respond?

Gilbert: Valerie Jarret had publicly stated that she was born in Iran, so most Americans, Roseanne included, assumed she was Iranian. Jarrett had even admitted, “I don’t look like a black person, and I’m even fairer skin than some of Iranian people are”.

When attacked, Roseanne responded by saying it was political satire, and she thought Jarrett was white. All this was ignored. Roseanne’s show was quickly canceled, and she lost her agent and manager.

The hypocrisy of the left was revealed only a week later when a Democrat Samatha Bee used scripted vile language on her show against Ivanka Trump and was quickly forgiven, as were Whoopie Goldberg and other Democrats for vile antisemitic rants.

What is “cancel culture” and who is behind it?

Gilbert: Cancel culture is a political tool of the American left to attack, intimidate, and debilitate their enemies in their pursuit of political power. The targets are always republicans or conservatives.

If a liberal says or posts something racist or abhorrent that violate the standards of the far left, they are quickly forgiven.

Only those on the right suffer consequences, which includes losing jobs, losing status, losing market share, and being given a scarlet letter of permanent shame.

Cancel culture became so powerful that conservatives began to practice self-censorship out of fear of becoming a target. Just one example is when the state of Georgia passed a law tightening up the mail-in voting procedures from the Covid era.

Major league baseball was threatened with being labeled “racist” if they didn’t move their All-Star game out of Atlanta, which they promptly did without addressing the merits of the claims.

For corporate America, the path of least resistance has simply been to quickly cave in to cancel culture, rather than fight it.

Can you explain why Roseanne Barr is America?

Gilbert: Roseanne Barr is America because she embodies the American dream. She grew up in small town America, in Salt Lake City, Utah, overcoming tremendous obstacles to become a great American icon.

Roseanne came from an immigrant Jewish family, was on welfare at times, give up a baby for adoption as an 18-year-old, even had a stint in a mental hospital, but made herself into America’s most popular comedian and beloved entertainer.

Why does America identify with Roseanne Barr?

Gilbert: The public embraced Roseanne from the moment she appeared on national television on the Johnny Carson Show in 1985. Her brand of small-town humor where she labeled herself a “domestic goddess” hit home with fans who appreciated someone who was like them. Roseanne later entered politics, running for president in 2012.

Roseanne Barr today is the very same personality that America got to know in her hit comedy show, but a lot wiser and louder! She has a popular podcast where she interviews newsmakers and entertainers.

Roseanne is still in high demand to appear on talk shows and podcasts, and gives speeches at events, including introducing Donald Trump at a rally in 2024, speaking at the ReAwaken America! event, doing stand-up on Fox Nation, and still appears at many events.

Joel Gilbert, is a Los Angeles-based film producer, and president of Highway 61 Entertainment. He is on Twitter: @JoelSGilbert.
