Tottenham fans are still basking in the glory of a long-awaited trophy triumph, but if silverware is to become a habit rather than a one-off, there is serious work to be done. Here are three things Tottenham must do to win a trophy again next season.

Tottenham Hotspur fans would never forget the last few days when they witnessed their club celebrate a trophy for the first time in 17 years.

It has been nothing but celebration, joy and elation all over N17 and for many fans, nothing would top that moment this year.

However, for every top football club, they do not just want to win once or twice now and then; they want to keep winning – they want sustained success, and that is the same for Tottenham.

Guglielmo Vicario has stated how much he believes this recent cup win will help change the mentality around Tottenham, as many fans and players now believe that Spurs can win things.

But what can the Lilywhites do to ensure they win a trophy again next season? Here are three things…

Ange Postecoglou decision key for early Tottenham transfers

Indeed, the first thing Tottenham have to get out of the way is who takes charge of this group next season.

Ange Postecoglou has proven he can win things, but his Premier League performance leaves an asterisk over his credentials, given how low Spurs finished in the league – 17th place.

The Tottenham hierarchy would need to decide soon and fast on the manager they want in charge at the Spurs dugout next season, with this allowing for the club to begin their transfer dealings early and on time.

The summer window is set to open earlier than usual, and with the UEFA Super Cup also a competition Tottenham are competing in, early signings would greatly improve their chances of making it two European trophies in three months.

Tottenham must invest in Champions League-level experience

If Tottenham are going to give themselves a chance of competing on every front next season, they simply need better players with experience playing in the Champions League.

Postecoglou has already made it clear that he wants Tottenham to sign players with experience playing in Europe’s elite competition and players with experience in the league.

Tottenham have been heavily linked with Leroy Sane, which is a good sign as he fits this bill, given his European and Premier League pedigree, having played for Bayern Munich and Manchester City.

Having these experienced players would allow for the club to rotate and still play at a high level without a drop off in quality – something that would be crucial if they are to make a deep run in cup competitions and maintain a high level in the league.

Spurs must solve injury crisis to compete on all fronts

One thing that severely derailed Tottenham’s season last campaign was the injury crisis that saw over ten first-team players sidelined at the same time.

In fact, while it looked like they had seen the back of those crises, right before the Europa League final, several key players – including James Maddison, Lucas Bergvall, Heung-min Son and Dejan Kulusevski – found themselves on the treatment table.

Something has to change and fast. There have been reports of Spurs undergoing serious changes from within and the medical department is one expected to undergo a significant overhaul, that is very much needed.

While that is done, it sure would not be enough as Tottenham would need a bigger squad, given the likelihood that these players would play close to 70 games next season.

If the club is to balance it all and compete on all fronts, then quality depth and squad rotation would be very vital.
