Rounds of rain and below average temperatures through Memorial Day weekend
What We’re Tracking
- Few storms tonight
- Rainy holiday weekend
- Cooler temperatures
We saw a few light showers across northeast Kansas today, but rain chances will increase this evening. Heavier showers and thunderstorms are likely after 9 PM, with some storms capable of producing hail and heavy rainfall. Overnight temperatures will fall into the mid-50s, with winds out of the east.
Multiple rounds of showers and thunderstorms are expected from tonight through early next week. While a few rumbles of thunder and flashes of lightning are possible, severe weather is not expected. The heaviest rain is likely to fall during the overnight hours, which means daytime periods may feature more hit-or-miss showers. Scattered rain will likely linger into Memorial Day, but drier and more settled conditions are expected by Tuesday.
With several rounds of rain in the forecast, the risk for flooding increases over the weekend. The heaviest rainfall is expected to remain south of I-70, where some areas could see 2 to 3 inches of rain.
Temperatures throughout the holiday weekend will stay on the cooler side. Highs will top out in the upper 60s Saturday, then fall into the lower 60s for Sunday and Monday. Not great pool weather.
Afternoon highs will try and warm up again by Wednesday as we see 70s return but we may also see rain chances increase yet again by Thursday night.
