OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) - The Oklahoma City Fire Department is asking Oklahomans
to be mindful during the holidays regarding water and grilling safety tips.
Authorities say, as family and friends prepare for celebrations for Memorial Day weekend
don't forget to make safety a top priority.
Water Safety Tips:
- Always supervise children around water with your full attention.
- Wear a U.S. Coast Guard-approved life jacket when boating or swimming in lakes and rivers.
- Never swim alone; use the buddy system.
- Avoid alcohol when swimming or operating boats, as impaired judgment and delayed reaction times can be dangerous on the water.
Grill and Fire Safety:
- Keep grills at least 10 feet away from homes, decks, and overhanging branches.
- Never leave a lit grill unattended.
- Allow coals to cool completely before disposing of them in a metal container.
- Follow local fire regulations and be aware of any burn bans in effect.
