First Lady’s Parirenyatwa Hospital visit warms hearts, sparks hope

HEALTH ambassador First Lady Dr Auxillia Mnangagwa, yesterday visited Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals where she interacted with patients and health workers showing her usual enduring love.
Dr Mnangagwa, who regularly visits health institutions countrywide, was well received by Parirenyatwa hospital staff after informing them that she was coming.
While in the company of doctors and the hospital’s officials, the mother of the nation began her tour in the hospital’s Casualty Ward where she interacted with the sick as she strengthened them.
She further thanked the patients for prioritising their health by visiting the hospital.

For patients, the encounter was deeply emotional, as they were visibly moved upon seeing the mother of the nation, pouring out their hearts.
Dr Mnangagwa took time to listen to their concerns and happiness before she encouraged medical staff to continue prioritising patient care and uphold their noble duty.
Amai Mnangagwa’s next stop was the Parirenyatwa School of Nursing, where she interacted with nursing students.
With quiet resolve, Dr Mnangagwa urged doctors and nurses to recommit to the core values of their profession: empathy, diligence and humanity.
“You are the heartbeat of this hospital and the hope of every patient who walks through these doors,” she said.
“Let your service be guided by love and integrity. We should continue to interact as a mother and her children on a regular basis.”
Acting Clinical Director Dr Morgan Mhlanga said the visit by Dr Mnangagwa was refreshing.

“When she went to our wards, she was speaking to patients and hearing from them what is happening on the ground whilst also checking on them,” he said.
Dr Mhlanga said that during interactions, Dr Mnangagwa gained first-hand information about operations at the hospital, acknowledging that while the actual peak is yet to be achieved, major strides are being made.
“Our minister, permanent secretary, and the management here are working so that we provide the best medication and care we can give to our patients,” he said.

Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals Public Relations Officer Mr Terrence Mahutsi said the gesture by the First Lady to interact with student nurses was well appreciated.
“I want to start by acknowledging this amazing, interaction. Very engaging and the outcomes that came through were encouraging.
“She came to listen, she came to give the students a platform to talk, and that dialogue is quite critical in making sure that we transform the nursing home, and transform our standards for the nurses we are producing,” he said.
Mr Mahutsi said the students themselves were excited to meet the mother of the nation face to face.

“It was a no-holds-barred kind of meeting where everyone was free to speak, and it is that kind of interaction that makes things happen. So, we are very grateful that the First Lady decided on her own to come and visit us and the patients,” he said.
A nurse, Makwenza Tatenda, said it was a great honour to be allowed to share their experiences directly with Health Ambassador Dr Mnangagwa.
“We thank you, Amai, for taking time to interact with us,” he said. Another nurse, Nyai Monitor, said such engagements are fruitful, thanking Dr Mnangagwa for taking time out of her busy schedule to meet them.

A nurse, Michelle Varaidzo Samuriwo, pleaded for a bus as well as facelift of recreational facilities including a swimming pool and gym at the nurses accommodation.
Chairperson of the committee that oversees student nurses’ welfare, Sekai Matonhodze, said they look forward to continuously engaging with the First Lady who is always open for interaction.
After the visit, Amai Mnangagwa said she heard all the concerns that she wrote down.
