YMCA Buffalo Niagara offers free entry for veterans this weekend
LOCKPORT, N.Y. (WIVB) -- As Memorial Day approaches, YMCA Buffalo Niagara is honoring veterans and active-duty military members with a special offer, free access to all five YMCA locations from Friday, May 23 through Monday, May 26.
This limited-time initiative invites veterans, active military personnel, and their families to explore all that the YMCA has to offer. Visitors should bring a valid ID and military identification.
Brooke Evans, membership director at the Lockport YMCA, says one of the best ways to get involved is through the group exercise classes.
“I always recommend our group exercise classes; they are led by our certified instructors,” said Evans. “It’s a set time for you to come in. You can try something new, maybe something you’re a little bit nervous about, and an instructor is there to help you and guide you through that process.”
Beyond group classes, guests can also enjoy access to full gym facilities, pickleball courts, swimming pools, and more. For those who fall in love with the community, there’s added incentive to stay.
“We do, all year round, waive the $50 join fee for any veteran or active military,” Evans added.
In addition to free access, all five YMCA locations are hosting a veteran hygiene donation drive through Memorial Day. Donations will benefit local organizations including the VA and Western New York Heroes.
Donation bins are located in the lobby of each YMCA location in Erie and Niagara counties. Staff are available at the front desk to assist with drop-offs or provide information about memberships and tours.
